A Simple Goal

Some excuses are fairly lame, whilst others I would argue, are completely valid. The past month has been a downhill spiral of stress with finals coming up. I saw the terrible ordeals approaching about 2-3 weeks ahead of time, and right around then I began feeling a pain on the inside of my left leg around the knee.

I knew that I couldn’t keep running on it, as the pain would increase proportionally to distance traveled, and so I called up my coach and took some advice. This turned out to be to get a new pair of shoes because all of mine were too aggressive. I was at a simple point, which looked like this inside my brain:

class Shoes {                                                                                                                                  boolean new;

Shoes ( ) {
new = false;
}                                                                                                                                                             }

class Textbook {                                                                                                                                  int page;

Textbook ( int x ) {
page = random(1,351) ;
}                                                                                                                                                              }

void loop ( ) {

if (Shoes.new = true) {                                                                                                                            run ( ) ;                                                                                                                                                      } else {                                                                                                                                                  study ( ) ;                                                                                                                                                     }                                                                                                                                                              }

void run ( ) {                                                                                                                                            distance += pace*time;                                                                                                                         }

void study ( ) {                                                                                                                                           Textbook.page += 1;                                                                                                                               }

Hopefully you’re still on the page, after seeing all that. What that should roughly do, is create an infinite loop of studying that is only ended with a break statement that I have omitted along with other things for time’s sake. The break statement would occur after the last final ( two days ago :0 ).

So my life played out almost exactly like the above code would if it were correct, which it probably isn’t because I haven’t coded in the past six months.  Because I never found the time to buy shoes (I was in an infinite loop of studying).

Point being, I believe University finals are a great excuse for what you could use to prioritize over running. Sadly excuses are still excuses so the right thing to do was to do a 5km run everyday at race pace which would take less than 20 min to complete.

Therefore the conclusion I have come to to make sure that I don’t make such an excuse again is to keep track of consecutive days that I run, even if its only 15min. My good friend did that and he is an amazing runner. So that is my goal: to keep a running streak* for as long as possible.

* No I didn’t steal that from Snapchat, in fact I don’t even have it….
